The Varsity Story 

“Stories”

The match against the Panthers from South Bend Washington tonight was a night full of stories. Stories as the guys chatted amiably with one another after their matches. Stories - as the Washington coaches told great stories of their college days, their tennis triumphs and their favorite strategies. Stories as the older players on our team got a chance to play matches with the younger guys. Stories as we literally sat with bowls of chili on the court and enjoyed the slow sunset. It was a night of enjoying the stories. 

The tennis was fun too. Washington is a small team in terms of numbers, having only 4 players and 3 positions. Each of the positions the Bruins won comfortably, but there were many things I saw that I liked. I really liked Judah's serve. I really liked Elias's consistency. I really liked the simple play of Malachi and Ethan. 

In the end, we grabbed the victories. But it was all the stories that we will remember :-)

The JV Story

There was no JV in the match against Washington, but we played some intra-squad matches. In most of them, we had an older, more experienced player team up with a younger guy. This way, everyone would really be involved in a high level tennis match. It was really fun to watch a couple of our guys get their first match play in.

For a night that had a lot of really fun tennis, our team did a really good job locking in and playing good tennis, even when we were against ourselves. We really kept getting better, no matter the situation.

We talk about how we can have peace because we know we hold each other in encouragement. And tonight in our mixed matches, we saw that. I loved how our older players reacted to being paired with the freshmen. They just went out and played fun tennis. And I love how our younger players reacted. They played some of their best tennis of the season. Above all, it was good to see each of them encouraging each other and not worrying about any mistakes.

We Can

Nothing more joyful than a good conversation. Tonight, Sam and Eli talked with the Panthers #1S and #1D players for a long time. Laughing and lingering on the court. It was such a fun connection.
