Triton Preview

Details: September 5, 2009 at 10:00 AM. To be played at Triton High School.

Last Season Review: Triton's team was almost exactly the same last year, with only a different #1S player. We played one of our most complete matches of the year, confident and aggressive and dismantled the team who had less experience. Triton's coach was highly congratulatory last year, feeling we played the best tennis he had seen in a while.

Triton Details: Triton comes into this match with a 6-1 record. There only loss was a 3-2 heartbreaker to perennial Sectional winner Plymouth. Despite that loss, both of their #1 teams have undefeated records on the season. Senior Ben Montalbano has played some close matches but continued to come out on top, and it is the same story at #1 doubles for Bryant Davenport and Darius Stevens. Here are the Triton scores for the season:

Triton 5, Whitko 0 (Whitko is 0-6 on the season)
Triton 2, Plymouth 3 (Triton won #1S and #1D)
Triton 5, Laville 0
Triton 4, Mishawaka Marian 1 (I think Triton lost #2S)
Triton 5, Mishawaka 0
Triton 4, Rochester 1 (Triton lost #2S, but he has now switched to #3S)
And one more that I don't have a record of...

Not the greatest opponents, but they have been defeating them with strong scores. The 3-2 loss to Plymouth actually says a lot about how ready we will need to be.

Bethany Christian Details: We are in a streak right now of playing weaker teams, and have consequently won 6 matches in a row to stand at 7-2. We certainly know that Triton is not a weaker team, so we need to be ready to play.

Projected Matchups:
#1S - Ben Mast (BC) vs. Ben Montalbano (T)
#2S - Seth Krabill (BC) vs. Josh Gephart (T)
#3S - Mikey Kelly (BC) vs. Jeff Ross (T)
#1D - Austin Loucks/Kyle Miller (BC) vs. Bryant Davenport/Darius Stevens (T)
#2D - Nick Rebec/Russell Klassen (BC) vs. Kreig Voreis/Josh Shafer (T)

Outlook: We now have a match we can get excited about. This will be more of a test than the other matches. This team is not an overpowering team, but they are experienced and confident coming into the home match against us. We will not be able to sleep walk through the match, but if we play points in ways that we enjoy, keep our heads on straight, and keep our energy up (pumped-upness!) then we can certainly come away victorious.
