Westview Preview

Details: September 8, 2009 at 4:30 PM. To be played at Bethany Christian High School.

Last Season Review: Last season's match versus Westview was one of the biggest heartbreakers of the year. We led the match 2-1 and needed just one more spot to seal the win, but both Jared Schwartzentruber and Luke Hostetter fell in third set tiebreaks. So close.

Westview Details: Westview returns 3 players from last year's solid campaign. They lose #1S and #1D however, which were some of their stronger positions. As of last Wednesday, Westview was 4-1 on this season. They have defeated two opponents that we have also defeated, beating Goshen 3-2 and Jimtown 4-1. These are interesting matches because both Goshen and Jimtown changed their lineups after being beaten by us. So Westview did not play them in the same spots, making it tough to compare.

Bethany Christian Details: We come in after an exhilarating win over Triton this Saturday, which raised our season record to 8-2. This was another match in which we felt the blessing of hard work paying off, as Kyle Miller and Austin Loucks were able to perform under pressure and win in a third set tiebreak. Also, Athlete of the Week Mikey Kelly has continued his wonderful #3 singles play and #2 singles Seth Krabill has won 7 straight matches.

Projected Matchups:
#1S - Ben Mast (BC) vs. Steve Blinco (WV)
#2S - Seth Krabill (BC) vs. Nick Pfenning (WV)
#3S - Mikey Kelly (BC) vs. Alejandro Marin (WV)
#1D - Austin Loucks/Kyle Miller (BC) vs. Nick Philley/Nic Hostetler (WV)
#2D - Nick Rebec/Russell Klassen (BC) vs. Austin Schlabach/Devin Bontrager (WV)

Outlook: The outlook, unfortunately, is rain. 85% chance at noon and then 60% the rest of the day. But if we do play, Steve Blinco is another in the continuing theme of the season, a solid #1 player. Last year he defeated Jared in the tiebreak. But Ben will match up well. And I think that is the way this whole match will go. We match up pretty closely (on paper) with them at each position. I'm hoping that we come out to the match with a lot of fire, and realize that this is another opportunity to beat a good team from our area. We've talked about having a tradition of excellence in the Bethany tennis program, and these are the matches we have to get pumped to win if that is going to be a reality. Bring the confidence, bring the belief, bring the hard work.
