Wednesday Opponent Overview

Catching up from a snow day, here's a Wednesday post on a Thursday!

All-Time Record vs Goshen: 3-2

Classic Matches:

2007: Bethany Christian 3, Goshen 2
This match was marked by some great individual matches, with Mikey Kelly and Daniel Buschert winning in three sets and Johnny Kauffman and Jeremy Thomas coming from 3-6 down in the third set tiebreaker to win. The win allowed us to advance to the Sectional Final for the first time in my coaching career.

2003: Goshen 4, Bethany Christian 1
This match is remarkable for two reasons. It was my first Sectional match as a coach and we had a team qualify for individual Regional because of it, #1 doubles of Jordan Mumaw and Seth Troyer. Unfortunately, we got blown out in the other matches.

Top Players over the Years: Collin Stanley, Mac Hussey, Ryan Wengerd, Andy Van Klaveren

Last Season Result: Bethany Christian 5, Goshen 0

Returning Varsity Players:
#1S - Seth Koble (lost to Ben Mast, 2-6, 5-7)
#2S - Stefan Baumgartner (lost to Seth Krabill, 3-6, 1-6)
#3S - Paul Johnson (lost to Nick Rebec, 3-6, 7-5, 5-7)
#1D - Jonny Tan (lost to Mikey Kelly/Kyle Miller, 1-6, 1-6)
#2D - Eli Metzler-Prieb/Nick Dandino (lost to Austin Loucks/Russell Klassen, 4-6, 4-6)

Top Returning JV Players:
Philip Bontrager (lost to Matt Ebersole, 8-7)
Adam Bratten (lost to Claude Stickler, 8-4; beat Matt Ebersole, 8-6)
Drew Hochstetler (beat Ike Lehman, 8-3)

Outlook:
This will be one of the more experienced teams that we play next year. At the top of the lineup, we handled their top players this year and have our top players coming back next year. So hopefully we can still take the singles positions. However, they return talent and experience in doubles. How well we work at these lower positions will determine how well we do against the Redskins next season. I expect it to be a very close match, probably determined by a 3-2 scoreline one way or the other.
