Bethany Christian vs. Prairie Heights {Match Report}
For pictures from this match, click here.
We expected to win easily and we did win easily. That is what we consider success. We even improved on last year's results. Last year's closest varsity match ended 6-1, 6-2. This year's closest match ended 6-1, 6-1. Last year's closest JV match ended 8-4. This year's closest JV match was 8-3. So overall, a well-played match and a good job by our guys in keeping their focus.
The varsity match leaves little room for discussion, such was the talent gap between the two teams. Their was very little drama or intrigue as the Bethany players took big leads at the beginning and held them all the way through. The highlights of the match certainly included several attacking points from the doubles teams, who gave Prairie Heights little time to rest all night long. But the facts remained that even the games that Bethany dropped were due to our own error, for Prairie Heights just had no answers when we were on.
The JV match was more of the same. It was difficult for the JV to sit and watch and then be called upon to play. Many of them came out rusty and therefore gave up too many games with simple errors, hitting balls into the net, double faults, etc. Ben Mast played a clean but perhaps passion-less game at #1 JV, and was able to simple outstroke his opponent. At #2 singles, Seth Krabill picked up his third win on the year as well. #1 doubles struggled mightily to begin, but when they began to hit safer crosscourt shots they really took the match over. #2 doubles had a hard time focusing, but they also would have been hard pressed to lose.
So what is there to say? Well, one more win, one more team that we've proved ourselves better than. I'm proud of the way we took care of business quickly in this game. Now we look to focus on a more difficult match this weekend with Triton.
