Over the next eleven weekdays, I'll be counting down the things that I'm excited for (as a coach) entering the 2011 season. We started today! Check out previous posts below.
#11 - New Regional Alignment
#9 - Playing Elite Competition
I've always been one who loved playing against the best. In high school, my basketball team got to play against the 1997 Mr. Basketball in Indiana (Luke Recker) in our regular season and in Sectional. I relish opportunities like that. It's fun, you get outstanding memories, and usually you get better.
This year, we will continue to have opportunities to try ourselves against the best in our area. We will continue to play against Columbia City, and while they aren't Carmel, they did finish 8th in our District Rankings last fall. We will also travel to the Merrillville Invitational, and there we will take on Merrillville (a team that won their Sectional last year) as well as Valparaiso (a team that made the State Finals last year!)
We will also get to see stellar individuals play this year, like Merrillville's Leonard Matthews, Valparaiso's Ben Kalisch, or Concord's Jason Denton. Leonard Matthews and Ben Kalisch were both in their District's top 16 while Denton made ours. Leonard Matthews even made the 2nd team All-State!
I love these opportunities. They will be fun to watch, coach, and play. Look forward in anticipation!
