To All Varsity Hopefuls
We must be committed this summer. We have a very good chance of having a successful season, however that is defined. We have a chance again to win some tournaments, matches, and maybe even compete for a sectional (something we have yet to really do in my 4 years coaching).
This is my pleading with you. We must play this summer. A LOT. We need the play to improve our current levels of competition and be prepared for the season. Getting out and putting in the extra work is the only way we can catch the teams ahead of us and compete in the sectional. I am going to repeat it here because it is so important. Putting in the extra work is THE ONLY WAY we will catch the teams ahead of us and compete in the sectional.
So I ask you, strongly, come out to each open court this summer. That's right. Come out to all of them. Make it a priority. Let your parents understand that it is a priority. Parents, let it be okay that it is a priority. We're all going to have vacations, and family trips, and that's fine. But let's get out to all of the rest.
I strongly encourage you to play even more than the open courts. If you want a key to hit with the ball machine on the weekends, I'll get you a key to hit with the ball machine. If you want a bag of balls to serve, I'll get you a bag of balls to serve.
I'm really excited about the possibilities for next season, but right now they are only possibilities. Let's work hard over the summer, because hard work is where possibility becomes reality.
