Memories

Tennis is awesome, we all know that. But what has made it awesome for you? Post here in the comments some of your memories from past tennis seasons, what do you remember about this team? Do you have a favorite match? Do you have a favorite camp memory? Do you have a favorite night-out video of all time? Let's hear your favorite memories, then I'll post some of them in a new blog segment as soon as we have enough.

...by the way, feel free to spread the word about this page to former players, parents, fans, etc. I'd love to have widespread participation here!

...thanks for the picture Luke...

  1. I think I'll remember when Jared S was trying to crawl though the bus window to unlock the door and he got stuck and someone pantsed him and his butt was just hanging out the window for a really long time and there was nothing he could do about it.
As far as tennis, I'm gonna remember playing Tommy Kurtz (Northwood's #1 singles). He was kind of my rival since I played him twice before the season and twice during the season including sectionals.

  2. My favorite tennis memories would have been being the only JV member to beat a Northridge or Fairfield guy, if I had been able to hang on and win those matches. Oh well.
But, I have really enjoyed both times I've gone to the magic wand so far. It was great the first time because Alex Bullard bought too much stuff, as usual, and I got a whole milkshake that he didn't want.

  3. Well, for me, my favorite match ever was 2005 vs. Northwood. So many awesome things happened in that match. Joel and Wes won in straight sets, but Mark Bauman lost in straights.

So it came down to doubles. #2 doubles of Joe and Alex lost in an all-out match. Best point I've ever seen, they get lobbed over and Alex goes back to get it against the fence, puts his foot up against the fence to push off and get more height, but his foot is against the door, which is not locked closed, so as he hits the ball back the door swings open and he falls out the door of the courts and rolls almost up against the bleachers. But the ball goes in. The Northwood guy figures he can just hit it back into the open court, but Joe is still at the net. The guy hits it over and Joe is able to get to it and volley it for a put away winner. Alex is still laying on the ground watching the point from outside the fence. Amazing! But they lost 6-7, 6-7. Two tiebreaks!

So finally it came down to Jordan Kauffman and Mike Steury, playing #1 doubles. They lost the first set 4-6, but won the second 7-5. In an incredibly tense and well played final set, Mike slammed away an overhead over the fence to win the match in a third set tiebreak. Not only did it win the doubles match, it gave us the decisive point and our (thus far) only victory over a sectional opponent.

Ah, and that's only a match memory. So many camp memories yet to come...

  4. My favorite memory would be during last year's JV season. Daniel and I won a close game at Northwood. Plus we were the only JV players to win that day so it felt pretty good.

  5. One of the memeories I had wasn't exactly the best. And I’m sure that everyone knows about this but the freshman rookies. It was tennis camp and I wanted to go really bad, but I was sick.
And during camp I would cough and cough until I vomited. This was worst during the night and everyone would wake up because it would be so loud. Yea and people didn’t really take kindly to waking up to me vomiting in the trashcan.
