Catching Up With...Reasons to Choose Tennis
So, I've used this space the past couple weeks to introduce you to a couple of middle school students who have decided to play tennis next year. There are a couple more who are for sure playing (Josh Helmuth and Wade Troyer). Then there are a bunch of guys who can't decide.
So today I'm opening up the comments section. Leave me as many reasons that you can think of that these undecided athletes should be a part of the tennis team. They can be tennis related or Bethany tennis team related. When all the comments are in, I'll list some of the best reasons here on the main post.
Thanks all of participating in this little recruiting exercise!

Here are but a few reasons:
ReplyDelete- The team is a great setting to hang out with friends outside of school.
- Fun traditions: tennis camp, Pizza King, Magic Wand, video night, you know the list.
- We have a very good team filled with players who are working hard to get better (we don't play just to "have fun," we set goals and reach them-like winning sectionals).
- Matt and Andrew are cool.
- Absolutely nothing beats the sensation of winning a big match.
Jonny's posts were about Bethany's tennis team, so I will talk about why i love tennis in general. For one, I like the individuality of the sport. I like to figure things out and since tennis can be such a mental battle of a sport, I have always cherished this aspect of the game. Secondly, I liked tennis because you get to play 100% of the time. In middle school soccer, I hated sitting on the bench, so I liked tennis because I could always play and feel that I was needed. I guess what I really like about it is that it takes a lot of practice too. So, I have beaten a few players who were clearly much stronger and more athletic than me just because I practiced more and wanted it more. Idk, these are a few reasons.
ReplyDeleteTennis has the winning attitude that many other Bethany sports lack.
ReplyDeleteTennis is an individual sport, as Luke said, but in the team setting, it gives you the satisfaction of being an important part of the team, because a win on any position gives the team a point. Even if you win but weren't the last one on the courts who won in a tough struggle, you can have the feeling that you contributed to it. And when you lose, it makes you think more about your personal game, and how to win to pick the team up, rather than only for individual success.
