Wednesday Opponent Overview

All Time Record vs. Mishawaka: 10-1

Classic Matches:

Bethany Christian 4, Mishawaka 1; 2004
At the beginning of 2004, we were very unsure of what our lineup would be throughout the season. In this match, we had Casey Diener playing #2S (he would end up at #3S), Jordan Kauffman playing #3S (he would end up at #2D) and Ben Shenk playing #2D (he would finish at #2S). With all the switching around, we endured a good fight from the Cavemen, who won #1D in 3 sets. That was another oddity about this match, Seth Troyer and Evan Stahley had defeated Northridge to open the season, and then lost to a traditionally weak Mishawaka team. Jordan Kauffman also had to endure three sets, but pulled one out in a tiebreaker. He was our tiebreaker king!

Top Players over the Years: Clinton Leazenby, Korey Phelps, Matt Riddle, Jeff Smith, Anthony Tomlinson, Adam Barnhart, Bobby LeRoy

Returning Varsity Players:
#2S - Bobby LeRoy (lost to Seth Krabill, 2-6, 0-6)
#3S - Andrew Laubner (lost to Russell Klassen, 2-6, 1-6)
#1D - Andrew Furlow (lost to Mikey Kelly/Kyle Miller, 0-6, 0-6)
#2D - Nick Hoover (lost to Austin Loucks/Nick Rebec, 0-6, 1-6)

Top Returning JV Players:
#1SJV - Brandon Lewis (lost to Matt Ebersole, 0-8; lost to Ike Lehman, 3-8)

Outlook:
The Cavemen have a good amount of players returning from last year's team. They had a new coach last year and I really like the direction in which they are heading. Hopefully they have enough numbers to fill out the team, because only 5 players total are returning. But especially in the singles matches they had nice strokes and consistency and gave us good opponents to play against. They will still be young next year, with 3 juniors and 2 sophomores making up the 5 coming back. But this core group should give us good competition, but our experience should hopefully win out.
